Sod-turning ceremony marks major milestone for new Foyer Père Fiset long term care home

August 30, 2024

Residents, staff and project stakeholders of Chéticamp’s Foyer Père Fiset long term care home celebrated the start of construction on a state-of-the-art new facility, during a well-attended ceremonial sod turning Friday August 30, 2024. Construction is scheduled to commence later this fall, and the new home is expected to welcome residents, staff, and visitors in 2027.

In the presence of distinguished guests including Hon Arthur J LeBlanc, Lt Governor of Nova Scotia, as well as Deputy Premier and Inverness MLA Allan MacMaster, it was announced that the new Foyer Père Fiset will offer 72 private resident rooms with washrooms, as well as bright, accessible common interior and exterior spaces for residents, visitors and staff to enjoy.

Speaking on behalf of the foyer team, Glenda LeBlanc said, “Today, we stand on the cusp of something truly special. The earth we stood on a few short minutes ago, holds the promise of compassion and care. It symbolizes progress, hope, and community engagement.”

“This will be a place where our elders will continue to find solace, companionship, and dignified support, for generations to come, in a place they call ‘home,’” she said.

Local councillor Claude Poirier spoke on behalf of the Municipality of Inverness County, and mentioned that the Foyer is an important part of the fabric of the community. “It provides many jobs which support our local economy, but most importantly the foyer offers excellent care to their residents including recreational, spiritual and emotional care,” he said.

Residents and staff of the long term care home in Chéticamp, NS, are standing and seated outdoors on a sunny day to watch the sod-turning ceremony.

Residents of the care home join local and provincial elected representatives at the site where the new Foyer Père Fiset will be constructed.
