The Get Active team is excited to kick off the fourth season here in Inverness County! Over the past few summers, the program has become an important part of communities across the county, bringing people together through fun, inclusive, and active programming.

We’re thrilled to welcome back Marisa MacLellan as our Summer Student Coordinator. Marisa brings incredible energy to the team, and her positive, outgoing personality helps set the tone for both staff and participants. As an Education student at St. Francis Xavier University, she also brings valuable experience and creativity to planning and delivering our programs.

We’re also fortunate to have a strong leadership group returning this year. Alongside Marisa, Carly Freimanis, Neil MacLean, Carly Beaton, and Kateag Hawley are back for their third and fourth summers. Having a team with that level of experience makes a big difference and helps set the stage for another successful season.

At its core, our goal is simple: to give residents and visitors meaningful opportunities to get involved, try new activities, and build connections. One of the most rewarding parts of this program is seeing kids return year after year—we’re proud to watch them grow through these experiences.

This summer, we’re placing a strong focus on accessibility. We heard from residents that they wanted more programming closer to home—and we listened. We’ll be piloting summer camps at Cranton Crossing and Creignish, along with day camps offered throughout the county. We’re also bringing back our popular tournaments, which continue to be a highlight each summer including the Gary MacInnis Memorial Beach Volleyball tournament in Inverness. This year, we’re adding 3-on-3 basketball alongside volleyball and pickleball.

In addition, we’re excited to offer girls volleyball for girls age 9-12 at Inverness Education Centre Academy in partnership with Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities.

We’re looking forward to another great summer of activity, connection, and community.
